Description As part of DAC Beachcrofts ongoing expansion of the firms global offering to clients across insurance, shipping, international trade, and commodities, we are looking to recruit a Paralegal to join our recently opened Hong Kong office. Our Hong Kong Insurance Team provides advice to global Insurers and their Insureds across a wide spectrum of classes of insurance but with a particular focus on Financial & Professional Lines and Property/Casualty business. Most of its work consists of advising on coverage and defence of high-value, complex disputes frequently with an international dimension. The global Shipping, Trade & Commodities team is led from Hong Kong, given its pre-eminence as a maritime centre, and services the entire range of shipping and commodities trading work, on both contentious and transactional aspects. The teams expertise ranges from ship finance, ship sale & purchase, shipbuilding, all aspects of marine casualties including collisions, fires, marine hull (and cargo) claims, charterparty disputes and all aspects of international and commodities trading, both physical and derivatives. We are looking to recruit a Paralegal to join the team and support the firms drive to become the go-to insurance, shipping and international trade firm in the SAR. Key Responsibilities Day to day responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
- Reviewing and summarising documents relevant to claims
- Drafting correspondence to counter-parties / experts and drafting advice to clients.
- Attending meetings (in person and on Teams) with clients/experts/factual witnesses and taking notes.
- Assisting with the ordering of files and proactive running of cases.
- Handling confidential information in line with the firms data security protocols.
- Coordinating clear document management including preparing and maintaining records, assisting with the ordering and scheduling of files.
- Reviewing documents and preparing electronic and hard copy bundles of documents for counsel/experts/factual witnesses.
- The ability to succinctly summarise witness evidence (both from written statements and when given orally).
- A Law Graduate from a common law jurisdiction - preferably at 2:1 degree level or above.
- Outstanding mainland Chinese candidates with a Master of Laws degree from a common law jurisdiction will also be considered.
- Fluency in Cantonese, English, and Mandarin.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of MS Office in particular Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Attention to detail and awareness of quality standards in work produced.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure, prioritising workload and multi-tasking where necessary.
- Enthstic and approachable with a committed and flexible attitude to work.
- Ambitious, driven and with an inquisitorial mind set to want to get to the bottom of things.
- Embracing change with a positive, flexible approach towards the implementation of new initiatives.
- Willingness to take part in business development.
