Senior Application Manager (Core Banking & Virtual Banking Systems), Circa 50

Job Purpose:

To oversee and manage all application software for the Hong Kong business, ensuring seamless operation of core banking and virtual banking systems, as well as integration with mission-critical platforms. This role excludes direct infrastructure management, focusing on applications in a digital banking environment. The candidate will act as the primary liaison with vendors and internal stakeholders—particularly with overseas users—to ensure technical solutions are aligned with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage and support Hong Kongs application software portfolio, including—but not limited to—core banking systems, virtual banking applications/services, SWIFT integration, name screening/list management, transaction monitoring, general ledger, and HR management systems.

Serve as subject matter expert on both traditional and virtual core banking system operation, configuration, user support, and issue resolution.

Coordinate end-to-end application lifecycle activities: requirement analysis, solution design, UAT, production deployment, release management, and troubleshooting.

Oversee third-party vendor engagements: review deliverables, negotiate changes, clarify requirements, document development, and support contractual compliance.

Liaise and collaborate with international business stakeholders; communicate technical requirements and implementation plans in fluent English.

Ensure application interfaces and integrations (i.e., SWIFT connectivity, GL feeds, HRMS sync) meet compliance, data accuracy, and operational standards.

Perform ongoing review and documentation of business processes, user requirements, functional/technical specifications, and workflows.

Proactively analyze, recommend, and implement system enhancements to optimize risk management, operational efficiency, and user experience.

Train and support business users (primarily overseas) on application updates or new functionalities.

Act independently, demonstrating sound problem-solving and project management skills; escalate critical issues to management where appropriate.

Requirements:

Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline.

Proven experience managing and supporting core banking application systems, and at least one of: SWIFT, transaction monitoring, general ledger, or HRMS.

Preferably with hands-on experience in virtual banking environments/applications.

Strong knowledge of application lifecycle, vendor management, and system integration.

Excellent command of spoken and written English; able to communicate clearly with diverse, multicultural user groups—especially overseas users.

Independent, well-organized, proactive, and detail-oriented.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for both technical and business audiences.

Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and actionable tasks.

Prior experience in banking or financial institution environments is highly preferred, with virtual bank experience being an advantage.
