Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-trackProfessor/ Associate Professor/ Assistant Professor (several posts)in the Division of Behavioural Sciences, School of PublicHealth (Ref.: 536297), to commence as soon as possible on athree-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of renewal,and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a secondthree-year fixed-term contract, subject to satisfactoryperformance. Exceptionally outstanding candidates may be consideredfor appointment on tenure terms.
Applicants should possess (i) a Ph.D. degree or equivalent inhealth or clinical psychology, or a related discipline, withparticular relevance to health risk perception, cognition, andhealth-related behaviour change; (ii) prior research experience inaddressing the psychological, social, and contextual challengesthat hinder the adoption and maintenance of healthier lifestyles,such as risk misperception, motivational barriers, inequities, andresistance to behaviour change; (iii) a strong track record ofhigh-quality research as indicated by publication record andexternal grants; (iv) evidence of international recognition with ademonstrated ability to work across discipline towards new researchinitiatives; and (v) a strong commitment to teaching students atboth undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The appointees are expected to strengthen and expand the School’sexpertise in developing and testing theory-driven, evidence-basedapproaches to understanding and modifying health-risk behaviours,with a particular focus on translating research into strategiesthat support healthier decision-making at individual, community,and population levels. They are expected to conduct independent andcollaborative scholarly research, publish research articles inhigh-impact journals, and attract competitive grants to maintainactive research programmes; take part in teaching undergraduate andpostgraduate programmes, and supervise research postgraduatestudents; and perform administrative duties. The appointment rankwill be determined based on qualifications and experience of thesuccessful candidate.
The School of Public Health is committed to protecting andenhancing health for all people, through the synthesis ofstate-of-the-science research, the dissemination of knowledgethrough education and training and effective evidence-based publichealth advocacy. The School is structured into six academicdivisions: Behavioural Sciences, Community Medicine and PublicHealth Practice, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Health Economics,Policy and Management, Kinesiology, and Public Health LaboratorySciences. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications andexperience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medicalbenefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% ofgross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuityand University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme,totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will also beprovided as applicable.
