職位 Overview
Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-TrackAssistant Professor in AI-enabled Design and Building Technology inthe Department of Architecture (Ref.: 536301), to commence onSeptember 1, 2026 or January 1, 2027, on a three-year fixed-termbasis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenurebefore the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.
The Department of Architecture (DoA) is internationally recognisedas one of the world's best architectural schools. The DoA seesdesign thinking central of the Department’s value ecology, AI asits new frontier, while building technology as its foundation. Itprides itself on providing an active and dynamic researchenvironment. The scholars and professionals who constitute theteaching staff of the Department represent a diversity of researchinterests. The scale and breadth of case studies in the regionoffers a potential portfolio of innovative research projects and alaboratory structure which in turn provides opportunities to poolefforts, cross disciplinary boundaries and develop forums forexchange. The Department offers both undergraduate and postgraduateprogrammes in an intense and demanding environment, where staffmembers take an active part in shaping the Department's culturethrough both teaching and administrative responsibilities. Responsibilities
The appointee will conduct research, teach postgraduate andundergraduate courses, and lead a research team on related studies. The primary responsibility is to support teaching and curriculumdevelopment for the Design+ program, with an emphasis onintegrating latest computational technologies into project designand delivery processes and on engaging with creative industries. Teaching assignments may include studios, lecture courses, orseminars in areas such as design, history and theory of design andtechnology, design thinking, AI, computation, XR applications,robotic and digital fabrication, and material futures.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess a postgraduate and professional degree inthe relevant field. Preference will be given to those holding aPh.D. degree in Architecture, Design and Technology, or anaffiliated discipline, and to those who have experience in teachingand practicing in a multidisciplinary context. They shoulddemonstrate an established record of teaching and research inadvanced technology in design, and creative and interactivetechnologies, specialising inthe intersection of artificialintelligence, Extended Reality (XR), computational design, adaptivedigital fabrication and sustainable material technologies.
Applicants should also have experience in developing projects onhow AI and advanced technology can augment creativity andsociability as well as the ability to develop innovativecomputational tools, processes and theories to explore technology’sinterface with and impact on human perception and experience andapplying these in creative, socially meaningful responses tochallenging design problems. Candidates with a Ph.D. in designresearch, design practice, history and theory of design and designscience, history and theory of architecture with a focus onmaterial science and culture, or material futures and designtechnologies, are welcome to apply. As the Department moves towardsstrengthening international links with academic institutions andinnovators in design throughout Asia and the world, applicants whohave a record of building such partnerships are encouraged toapply. Strong writing skills, as evidenced through an increasingtrack record of peer-reviewed publications, and grant-writingexperience are also desirable, as staff are expected to pursuefunding opportunities to advance their research.
Benefits
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications andexperience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medicalbenefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% ofgross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuityand University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme,totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will beprovided as applicable.
