The Assistant Engineering Manager supports the effective operation and maintenance of all HKIS facilities by managing preventive maintenance programs, implementing SOPs, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The role oversees daily mechanical, electrical, plumbing, ELV, and fire safety operations; coordinates contractor work; and responds to emergencies. The 職位 holder also contributes to budgeting, documentation, and utility conservation efforts to enhance performance, reliability, and sustainability across campus facilities.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Preventive Maintenance
Support the Asset Maintenance Manager in planning and implementing the master preventive maintenance program to ensure all buildings, facilities, engineering systems, and fire safety systems remain in optimal condition.
Maintain accurate records of all preventive maintenance work completed by contractors and in‑house teams.
Ensure sufficient resources—including vendors, manpower, and materials—are available to keep mechanical and electrical systems fully operational.
Standard Operating Procedures & Compliance
Develop and implement SOPs for operations and maintenance across buildings, facilities, infrastructure, and all engineering and fire safety systems, ensuring alignment with HKSAR regulations and relevant industry standards.
Stay current with updates from HKSAR government bodies and applicable industrial standards to ensure ongoing compliance and best practices.
Operational Leadership
Manage the daily operations of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and ELV crews, including duty assignments, training, performance evaluation, quality control, and operational support for school events.
Implement cost‑saving measures related to mechanical, electrical, and ELV systems.
Safety & Emergency Response
Monitor facility conditions and identify potential hazards affecting the HKIS community.
Respond to technical emergency calls.
Budgeting, Documentation & Capital Works
Prepare budgets, maintenance specifications, lifecycle assessments, and operational manuals.
Maintain equipment inventories.
Inspect and evaluate contractor work.
Support design, modifications, and annual Capital Works projects.
Systems Support
Provide technical support for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, ELV, and fire safety systems across school facilities and residential apartments, ensuring smooth operation and maintenance.
Utility Conservation & Sustainability
Contribute to HKIS's sustainability goals by analyzing energy and water usage, supporting utility conservation programs, and recommending system upgrades to enhance overall performance.
Others
Undertake additional responsibilities that strengthen HR operations and contribute to organizational goals.
Minimum requirements and qualifications:
Education:
Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
Experience:
Minimum 10 to 12 years of experience in building services, including supervision and maintenance operations.
Strong technical knowledge of MEP and fire‑life‑safety systems, with specialized experience in mechanical systems such as HVAC, plumbing, and/or fire protection.
Exposure to industry best practices and standards.
Project management experience.
Required skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Cantonese.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate diplomatically and build effective working relationships.
Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for improvement, implement solutions, and measure their impact to strengthen systems, policies, and procedures.
Strong organizational and planning abilities, with the capacity to prioritize, multitask, and manage multiple assignments effectively.
Customer‑service orientation and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse community.
Solid understanding of relevant government ordinances and local laws.
Strong analytical skills, innovative thinking, and proficiency in using technology and computer systems.
Ability to challenge existing processes constructively and lead performance improvement efforts.
