Research Assistant

A position for Research Assistant is currently available in the Surgical Robotics and Instrumentation Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering, led by Professor Shing Shin Cheng. The laboratory focuses on flexible surgical robot development, medical image navigation, and artificial intelligence in medical imaging and robot control. The laboratory is seeking strong and highly motivated candidates who have background in any of the following research areas: robotics, mechanical design, modeling/simulation, control, smart actuators/sensors, planning and navigation, and perception. 

Applicants should have (i) a Bachelors degree, preferably an MPhil or a PhD degree, in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related engineering disciplines; and (ii) effective written and spoken English. Experience in collaborating with clinical personnel and having publication records would be advantageous. Preferences will be given to those who have experience in surgical robotics, soft robotics, and medical imaging-related research. 

The appointee will be expected to conduct high impact and potentially technology translatable research related to surgical robotics.

Appointment will be made on contract basis for three months commencing August 2023.
