Job Description

Discovery College is searching for an exceptional educator to fill the Temporary position of Learning Diversity Teacher from August 2025- December 2025. The appointee will have an emphasis on the early years of Primary, supporting students with specific learning difficulties who need regular personalised push-in support and/or small group teaching.

Discovery College is an all-through school located in Discovery Bay, Lantau Island.

Job Summary

The main role of the Learning Diversity (LD) teacher is to support identified students in the areas of Special Education Needs (SEN), English as an Additional Language (EAL) and Gifted and Talented (G&T) in achieving the best possible learning outcomes. LDT teachers work in collaboration with subject specialist teachers to improve the learning outcomes of these students. This occurs through collaborative planning, preparation of resources, sharing of strategies, parallel teaching of students in small group settings and/or co-teaching in classes. For the position being advertised, it would be advantageous to have experience in supporting students in upper Primary (Years 5-6).

In addition to collaborating closely with specialist teachers, the LDT teacher is responsible for tracking the progress of individual students, setting improvement targets, maintaining up-to-date records and designing appropriate interventions to help these students in ensuring student achievement. While the appointee will have an emphasis on Primary, the Learning Diversity team is a Whole College team and Learning Diversity Teachers may be deployed to support students across the Year 1 to 13 continuum.

The LD teachers contribution to the school goes beyond the classroom. They participate in the development of school policies and programmes and assist with the implementation of school priorities. Teachers may be required to undertake other duties in addition to their teaching duties.

Responsibilities

  • Use own professional role to ensure that the College is able to deliver on the 5 DC Outcomes for every student
  • Plan lessons and sequences of lessons to meet students individual learning needs and to ensure students progression
  • Use a range of appropriate strategies for teaching and learning and classroom management
  • Use flexible groupings and structured inquiry to deliver high-quality lessons in line with the IBO philosophy
  • Maintain a well-organised and stimulating learning environment
  • Use learning technologies to enhance learning
  • Use information about prior attainment to set expectations for students
  • Use a range of assessment and reporting methods that make students achievement visible in relation to learning outcomes
  • Provide clear and constructive feedback to students and their parents and caregivers
  • Plan and engage in professional learning activities that support College and systemic priorities
  • Take responsibility for own professional development and use the outcomes to improve teaching and students learning
  • Make an active contribution to the policies and aspirations of the College
  • Ensure administration of classroom procedures is completed efficiently
  • Collaborate positively with members of the school community to build a team environment that supports students learning
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and School Improvement in order to ensure high standards of professional practice and student outcomes
  • Utilise the Professional Reflection and Development process
  • to ensure own professional development and support for organisational priorities
  • Contribute to the wider life of the College including through the co-curricular programme and offsite activities
  • Support the academic, pastoral and co-curricular work of the school
  • As required as a Class Teacher or Learning Advisor, provide care and support for students to ensure all students make excellent progress and have the opportunity to flourish
  • Ensure Individual Education Plans for students with identified needs are updated in line with school and ESF guidelines
  • Provide targeted and appropriate support for all students on the LDT register
  • Ensure the LDT register is regularly updated and clearly communicated
  • Uphold the Colleges commitment to learning diversity
  • Collaborate with Deans, Heads of Departments and Team leaders to ensure a consistency of practice in enabling students to have access to identified learning modifications
  • Perform other duties which may reasonably be assigned from time to time by the Principal or his/her delegate

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Education, or Bachelors Degree in any subject with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent
  • Qualification in an area relevant to Learning Diversity (e.g. SEN, EAL, etc.) would be an advantage.
  • An understanding of the IB and the key underpinnings of the curriculum frameworks is essential.
